Quality Eggs & Quality Processing
Quality Assurance
Quality products are the hallmark of Willamette Egg Farms, and our focus on quality and quality assurance is evident throughout our operations. We strive for excellence at every opportunity, whether it’s providing safe and humane care for our flocks, sensitivity to the environment or producing high-quality eggs for our customers.
Every day of the year we collect freshly laid eggs that are washed, candled, graded, packaged and refrigerated. Within a day or two (and often less), these eggs are loaded into our trucks for delivery to your favorite store, restaurant, baker or salad maker.
Our quality assurance efforts are designed to protect the wholesomeness of your eggs throughout the gathering, inspecting, packaging, and handling processes. In addition to our own quality control personnel, our farm-fresh pasteurized egg products are under constant USDA supervision. The resident USDA inspector confirms eggs are properly graded for good quality and correct size.
Willamette Egg Farms is proud of our Quality Assurance program because we stand behind our employees. They work tirelessly to ensure that our egg production operations are among the best-managed in the nation. Throughout all operations, these people perform their responsibilities with respect for humane flock care, food safety, quality control and environmental impact.
Facilities
To assure our farm is the best steward of our resources, we have committed significant capital to provide the best technology available. As a result, Willamette Egg Farms has the most advanced machinery offered in our industry.
When we plan new facilities, we also take thorough steps to minimize any potential impact on the environment. Our layer systems – both conventional and cage-free – reflect the greatest care and full compliance with the United Egg Producers Animal Husbandry Guidelines. For more information on this program, visit www.uepcertified.com.
Our cage-free birds are free to roam throughout their henhouse – entering and leaving their nests at will.
Quality Control and Food Safety
Willamette Egg Farm’s is committed to producing the finest, safest eggs; as such, our primary focus is quality and food safety.
We have continuous USDA supervision in our shell egg grading and our egg products facility. The entire process follows a detailed Best Management Practices regimin based upon the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points Program (HACCP).
The purpose of the program is to help insure the safety of the egg supply and provide consumer assurance from the farm to the table. Specifically, this program focuses on:
- Poultry House Cleaning
- Pest Control
- Proper Egg Washing
- Biosecurity
- Refrigeration
At the farm, our eggs are gathered straight from the nest, then placed on sanitized plastic flats and put immediately into coolers. Refrigeration at 45°F is the best way to control foodborne bacteria – regardless of location. The temperature of Willamette Egg Farms eggs is consistently controlled from the time they’re brought into the central processing plant, through processing and delivery to your grocer. This not only maintains, but actually extends, the eggs just laid freshness.
Environment
At Willamette Egg Farms, we take seriously our responsibility to be good stewards of our resources.
To continuously maintain our high standards, Willamette Egg Farms employees are encouraged and trained to conduct their duties in an environmentally responsible manner, to conserve natural resources and to minimize waste through source reduction and recycling.
As we plan for the future, we regularly examine advancements in technology that may benefit our operations and preserve the resources that make up our environment – clean water, air and soil.
Animal Care
Modern agricultural practices have significantly improved food production efficiency. As a long-time member of UEP, we are committed to their Animal Welfare Guidelines. Our on-going goal is to maintain a balance between these highly effective practices and the welfare of the animals we depend upon for our food (click here for more information about how we take care of our hens).
When Tom Dybvad founded Willamette Egg Farms in 1934, he founded a family enterprise that has lasted five generations. For him, the farm wasn’t only his home; it was his family’s livelihood and future.
As farmers, we fully understand the importance of our resources and our environment; indeed, no one could have a more vested interest in assuring its protection for our children. That’s why we’ve developed a demanding quality assurance program, and that’s why we are so strict about full compliance in all respects.
You want the best for your family – on your table at home or in your local restaurant. You expect the eggs you eat to be fresh, safe and wholesome – and we expect the same. When we put our name on the package, we are putting our reputation on the line. Our name on the carton is our assurance to you: you can trust the fresh eggs inside.
